The Fetal Medicine Unit at Fernandez Hospital was started in 1998.

Today the fetus is a patient in his or her own right. It has come to be recognized the world over, that timely identification and diagnosis of fetal abnormalities and appropriate counseling can reduce the chances of death, disease and disability and recurrence of disorders in future fetuses. The Unit provides facilities for obstetric scans, fetal dopplers and diagnostic invasive procedures like Chorionic Villus Sampling, Amniocentesis and Fetal Blood Sampling.
